Sick as a dog Friday night, so I watched a very interesting documentary about Danny Williams, who disappeared and was never heard from again. Fascinating for both the external subject (Warhol, Cale, VU) as well as the internal (the mystery behind Williams' disappearance).
It's a little slow moving at first, but once they begin showing Williams' films the doc really takes flight. Williams' films are spectacular, high contrast black and white, slow motion, jump cuts, etc. These films are a revelation, depicting Warhol, Billy Name, Edie Sedgwick, The Velvet Underground, and others in their natural habitat of the Factory. They are a stunning moving document of the era. I find it so amazing that items like these films are lying out there in closets and basements somewhere, waiting to be discovered. Fascinating.
From imdb.com:
Esther Robinson's portrait of her uncle Danny Williams -- Warhol's onetime lover, collaborator and filmmaker in his own right -- offers a exploration of the Factory era, an homage to Williams's talent, a journey of family discovery and a compelling inquiry into Williams's mysterious disappearance at age 27.
